This was a quick weekend in Wellington – late Friday to early Sunday. We went for the Wairarapa Harvest Festival and managed to tack on a tasting at Garage Project’s cellar door followed by a beer at their taproom across the street. To me that was almost as enjoyable as the festival.
On Saturday we took a relaxing 75-minute train ride from Wellington to Carterton, then a short shuttle to the venue. At the festival, the wine was flowing, music was good, and food was plentiful. My favorites were the pork buns and salt & pepper squid. I was in a bubbly mood and tasted most of the sparking wines on offer. I kept coming back to the one by Fairmont Estate. We also made a note of Loopline Vineyard’s 2017 late harvest rose.
The rain put a bit of a damper on the day as people ran for cover with each passing shower.
The train back to Wellington was scheduled before the end of the festival, which was okay for us. When we exited the station in Welly it was a short walk to our hotel.
