We are lucky to have friends with a new bach in Coromandel Town. On Saturday morning we made the 2.5 hour drive, with a stop at the Thames weekend market. The Coromandel Town was hosting two events that Saturday: Coromandel Seafood Festival and The Great Kauri Run. By the time we got to the seafood festival in the afternoon many of the menu items were sold out. Those that were available had very long lines. We opted for lunch in town followed by the Kauri Block Track. It was a clear day and the hike offered views all the way back to Auckland and the many islands in between.

We did a different hike starting from Long Bay Scenic Reserve the following morning. There are many beautiful Kauri trees and a few beachside camping spots.

Despite the quick getaway. Cormandel has a vibe that requires you to take a deep break and admire the surroundings. It feels a world away from Auckland.
